Sweet Potato Soup with Quinoa


Quick, cozy, and nutrient-packed! This recipe works beautifully from 6 months + and uses whatever you already have in your kitchen. Perfect for busy days when you still want to give your baby a warm, balanced meal.

Tip: Healthy fats = healthy brains! Babies’ brains are growing rapidly at this age, so don’t shy away from adding in lots of healthy fats like olive oil, unsalted butter, ghee etc.


Ingredients (Baby-Safe)

  • Sweet potato – ½ to 1 medium, boiled and mashed

  • Quinoa - cooked in 1/4 cup - 1/3 cup

  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp

  • Unsalted butter – 1 tbsp

  • Garlic – 1 clove, finely chopped

  • Onion – ¼ large, roughly chopped

  • Tomato – 2 medium, roughly chopped

  • Spices (baby-safe):

    • Paprika

    • Oregano

    • Turmeric (optional)

  • Cheese (optional): parmesan or mozzarella

  • Salt & black pepper – only for babies 12 months+


How to Make Sweet Potato Quinoa Soup for Babies

  1. In a pressure cooker add:

    • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

    • 1 clove garlic

    • 1 carrot

    • ½ sweet potato

    • 1–2 tomatoes

    • 2 cups water

    • Turmeric + optional ginger

  2. Cook for 1 whistle. Cool and blend to soup consistency.

  3. In a pan, sauté very finely chopped veggies (peas, corn, zucchini, spinach).

  4. Add 3–4 tbsp soup + cooked quinoa (¼–½ cup).

  5. Season with oregano + paprika.


Notes

  • Texture can be slightly coarse.

  • You can add leftover daal to make it more nutrient-dense.

  • Toddlers 12+ months: optional pinch of salt.
